Closest City: Torrance
State: California
Country: United States

My first 50 Mile ride was with Alvaro on August 3rd. We started at Torrance Beach and ended at the Malibu city limits sign. Overall total ride of 57 miles.

We toured through the coast line beaches like, Redondo, Hermosa, Manhattan, Marina Del Rey, Dockweiler state beach, Venice, Santa Monica, Will Rogers state beach, and of course Malibu.

The overall ride was good, It wasn't too hot, the California breeze was keeping us cool. Some areas were more congested because of events, Manhattan beach had a volleyball event so there was lots of people around.

We kept a good pace around 18-25 mph throughout the whole trip. When riding through Ballona Creek in Marina Del Rey I looked far off into the distance and saw someone on their bike just collapse in the middle of the road!! Alvaro asked me if i saw it i said YUP! so we headed back to check if the rider was ok... she tried getting back up and bam! fell again... We didn't know what to do, we tried to get her to stay down but she kept on getting up, we gave her a power bar and she looked ok...she got up again and bam! she feel again face first into the fence! then fell on top of her bike with her eyes rolled back! OUCH! So i picked her up and sat her down and made sure she didn't get up again...she looked up and said she was finally ok, got up and walked her bike away before her friend could call 911 (we think she was embarrassed)

We stopped at Santa Monica Beach, it was great felt good to be so far...but still not far enough! Our goal was 50 Miles. We decided to take a few panning shots of each other...Alvaro went first...then me! OOOOOH NOOO! I noticed my bike was real bouncy!!! NOOOO! Flat tire!!! Apparently i had a slow leak! I took it to REI which was real close but their service department said it wouldn't be done until tomorow!! I felt like asking him to let me borrow the tool's i'll do it myself!!

So i took it to Performance Bike on 5th and Broadway! They did it for 10 bucks + 3 for the tube! I was like sweeeet! (I highly recommend this place) Done!

So after that little detour we continued back onto our route and by the time we passed Will Rogers State beach and started riding on PCH towards Malibu I started getting tired! AH! Kicking down into lower gears I think it was from partying the night before (i know i should of rested but hey it was fun!) It also didn't help that we were riding towards higher ground.

We reached the Malibu sign and our odometer said 25 miles. We headed back towards fooood! My suggestion of course, ate for about 15 minutes and made our way back. 25 more miles to go. I found the ride back seemed shorter but the overall trip including 2 mini breaks took us 3 hrs and 40 min. Not too shabby for our first 50 miles.

I regret not taking more photos but having a huge DSLR stopping and taking it out every single time would be real time consuming. I think i'll invest in simple point and shoot for next time ;)
